A New Pacific Partner: Hawaiian Airlines Joins the oneworld Family
Published by V.S. Journeys
There’s a fresh breeze blowing through the oneworld alliance this week. Hawaiian Airlines has officially come aboard as its newest member, making the carrier the third U.S.-based airline in the group after Alaska Airlines and American Airlines. Honolulu now steps into the spotlight as a global hub within the network.
What does that mean for travellers? Quite a lot. With Hawaiian in the mix, oneworld’s reach across the Pacific has grown significantly. Passengers can now more easily plan trips to the Hawaiian Islands and beyond, including destinations like Hilo on the Big Island, Rarotonga in the Cook Islands, Pago Pago in American Samoa, and Papeete in Tahiti.

Warm Words from the Top
The head of oneworld, Ole Orvér, described the arrival as a moment to celebrate. “We are delighted to officially welcome Hawaiian Airlines into the oneworld family,” he said, noting that the alliance’s presence in both the Pacific and the U.S. is now stronger than ever. He pointed to Hawaiian’s nearly century‑old reputation for award‑winning service, adding that the airline brings the genuine spirit of aloha to the partnership and makes travelling to Hawai‘i more seamless and rewarding.
On the other side of the table, Hawaiian Airlines CEO Diana Birkett Rakow sounded equally pleased. She spoke of joining this extended ‘ohana – or family – of leading global airlines. The move, she explained, delivers real benefits for her airline’s guests, including those enrolled in the Atmos Rewards loyalty programme and Hawai‘i residents alike. She also expressed excitement about welcoming oneworld travellers onboard and sharing the islands’ culture, environment, and warm local hospitality.
What’s on Offer for Passengers
Hawaiian Airlines operates a busy schedule: roughly 230 flights every day to, from, and between the Hawaiian Islands. In 2025 alone, the carrier welcomed more than 11 million passengers. Its network stretches across the Pacific, linking Hawai‘i with important destinations in Asia, North America, and the South Pacific – including several existing oneworld hubs such as Los Angeles, New York‑JFK, Seattle, Sydney, and Tokyo.
Every major Hawaiian island is served directly, and the airline runs about 140 daily inter‑island flights. For oneworld customers, that means smooth connections across the archipelago whether they’re arriving from Europe, the Middle East, Australia, Asia, or North America. The main gateway hubs are Honolulu on O‘ahu and Kahului on Maui.

Perks for Loyalty Members
Through the combined Atmos Rewards programme – which spans both Alaska Airlines and Hawaiian Airlines – members can now earn and redeem points across the entire oneworld network. High‑tier Hawaiian guests also gain access to oneworld Priority privileges: first‑class check‑in, lounge entry, fast‑track security at selected airports (regardless of the ticket class), plus a collection of nearly 700 premium lounges worldwide. That includes the oneworld branded lounges at Amsterdam Schiphol and the award‑winning facility in Seoul’s Incheon Airport.
For those with oneworld Emerald, Sapphire, or Ruby status, the benefits go both ways – reciprocal recognition, the ability to earn status points, priority boarding, and some of the best lounge access in the industry.
A Quick Look at the Bigger Picture
Hawaiian Airlines is part of the Alaska Air Group, which also includes Horizon Air and McGee Air Services. Together, Alaska and Hawaiian operate a global network with hubs in Seattle, Honolulu, Portland, Anchorage, Los Angeles, San Diego, and San Francisco, flying to more than 140 destinations across North America, Latin America, Asia, the Pacific, and Europe.
With Hawaiian now onboard, oneworld brings together 16 member airlines – Alaska Airlines, American Airlines, British Airways, Cathay Pacific, Fiji Airways, Finnair, Hawaiian Airlines, Iberia, Japan Airlines, Malaysia Airlines, Oman Air, Qantas, Qatar Airways, Royal Air Maroc, Royal Jordanian, and SriLankan Airlines – plus over 20 affiliates. The alliance’s promise is a smoother, more rewarding travel experience, with frequent flyer perks that stretch across the globe.
In short, if the Pacific has been on your radar, this new partnership just made it a whole lot easier – and friendlier – to get there.
