British Airways Adds Two New Routes: St. Louis and Guernsey Take Off from Heathrow

Published by V.S. Journeys

British Airways has quietly expanded its network this week with the launch of two direct services from London Heathrow – one to St. Louis, Missouri, and another to Guernsey in the Channel Islands. Both routes are now up and running, offering travellers a distinctly different pair of getaway options: a classic American Midwest adventure and a short hop to a coastal island escape.

St. Louis becomes the 27th U.S. destination on British Airways’ route map, and the airline is now the only UK carrier flying directly to the city. The inaugural flight touched down with a playful twist – the entire crew happened to be named Louis, Lewis, or Louise.

The launch comes at a symbolic moment, coinciding with the 100th anniversary of Route 66, which passes right through St. Louis, as well as the United States’ 250th anniversary celebrations. For football fans, St. Louis also serves as a handy launchpad for this summer’s World Cup, with nearby Kansas City hosting matches.

From Heathrow Terminal 5, British Airways will operate four weekly flights during the summer season, using a Boeing 787 fleet. Those aircraft are gradually being fitted with Starlink, billed as the fastest Wi‑Fi in the sky. Passengers can choose between three cabins: World Traveller (economy), World Traveller Plus (premium economy), and Club World (business class).

Guernsey: A Long-Overdue Direct Link

Meanwhile, Guernsey finally gets a direct connection to Heathrow – a first for the Channel Islands. Until now, travellers heading to the island from London’s main hub had to change planes or take a ferry. The new route operates daily, year‑round, making it far easier to reach Guernsey’s cliff walks, quiet beaches, and distinctive local culture.

To mark the occasion, the inaugural flight was staffed by crew with personal ties to the island, including the captain and four cabin crew who either grew up in Guernsey or have close family there. Passengers were also treated to a traditional Guernsey Gâche Mèlèe, an apple dessert deeply rooted in the island’s heritage.

What These Routes Mean for Travellers

St. Louis often flies under the radar compared to New York or Chicago, but that’s part of its appeal. The city is home to the iconic Gateway Arch, a lively jazz and blues scene, and barbecue that locals take very seriously. It’s less frantic, more affordable, and works beautifully as a starting point for wider Midwest road trips or Mississippi River itineraries.

Guernsey, by contrast, appeals to a quieter crowd – walkers, history enthusiasts, and anyone seeking a short break with a slower pace. The island has its own microclimate, a surprisingly strong food scene, and that particular Channel Islands blend of British familiarity with a gentle hint of somewhere else.

More to Come: Tivat in 2026

British Airways isn’t stopping here. Later this summer, the airline will launch flights to Tivat, Montenegro – a scenic coastal town on the Bay of Kotor. Seasonal services from Heathrow Terminal 3 begin on 14 May 2026, operating three times per week.

Neil Chernoff, British Airways’ Chief Planning and Strategy Officer, said: “It’s always a proud moment when we see a new route take to the skies. These two new destinations offer our customers more choice and opportunities to explore – whether across the Atlantic to America’s Midwest, or a short hop to the Channel Islands.”

For agents and travellers alike, these launches provide two fresh answers to the perennial question: “Where’s somewhere different?” St. Louis delivers an authentic American city without the tourist crowds, while Guernsey offers a coastal escape that’s wonderfully easy to reach. Both are direct from Heathrow – simple logistics, memorable experiences.
